Growing up, I had a couple of friends who moved through the world in a way I envied. The simplest way to describe them is that they gave zero f*cks. It wasn’t performative, it wasn’t a front, it was just who they are/were. They had an ease and an unbotheredness I did not possess.

I, on the other hand, cared about and felt everything. I was hyper-aware, deeply considerate, sensitive, polite to a fault, so much so that I would contort myself into discomfort just to appease others. I cared (a lot!) about what people thought, about how I was perceived, about getting it right, not rocking the boat and was a textbook people pleaser.

But somewhere along the way, after I turned forty, I changed.

I’ve gone through a loosening, a shedding and started to give fewer f*cks in the same grounded, unshakeable way I had once envied in others. I’ve found myself unbothered, living by my own rules, doing things my way and I’m not looking around for permission or approval. And it makes me wonder: what finally ushers us into our own full, authoritative power, to live, truly, carte blanche?

• Justin Bieber broke a slew of records at Coachella 2026 or Bieberchella, as Beliebers have dubbed this year’s festival. Bieber is the highest-paid artist in Coachella history ($10 million); spurred the highest-ever ticket demand; his performance was the most Googled in Coachella history. He also sold more merch in the first weekend than any other artist has over Coachella’s two weekends. There’s always that perfect spring moment when the sun comes out and it’s delightfully, almost indulgently, too hot for your winter wardrobe. So, you reach for your favorite dress, or maybe a pair of Bermuda shorts (very now!), slip them on with a sense of optimism….and then…catch a glimpse of your legs. Shockingly dry, rather pale, possibly prickly and slightly confused. And your feet? Also making a case for immediate attention (it’s me a couple weeks ago, hiiiii don’t judge, we’ve all been there!).

This of course inspires a spring re-entry beauty routine to return to bare legs, open toes and shoulders out. The products that you’ll use all warm season long, the kind that give hydrated skin which catches the light, limbs that feel soft and intentional, a glow that reads effortless but considered and makeup that can accommodate your spring/summer life.

I LOVE a good hybrid product and this one is beautiful. A perfect tint which I like for night time since it doesn’t have SPF…or I’ll layer SPF underneath.

Foundation: The Foundation Drops
I rarely wear foundation these days but when I do, I like to do one pump of moisturizer, one pump of starglow and a couple drops of this foundation. So pretty!

Concealer: Skin Blur Serum
This formula launched recently and it’s amazing! It claims to be a crease-resistant wear which we all know is a bold statement but it really is that! It feels like it was made for my age/skin concerns.

Glow: Starglow and/or Peau De Soleil
Both are chef’s kisses!

Bronzer: Sun Melt
This is essentially a clean dupe of the Chanel cream bronzer (IYKYK), it’s great. Meanwhile, this is in my cart for something new.

Blush: BeachPlease or Blush Is Life
This cream formula is a forever favorite, greatest hits: golden hour, power hour, rush hour and happy hour, but really they’re all stunning.

And for a powder, Blush Is Life is gorgeous on everyone, Dreamland is on my cheeks now.

Lip Balm: Le Chouchou and/or Lip Pulse
The new KOSAS lip balm is a clean lip plumper with a satisfying warming-cooling tingle for visibly fuller, glassy lips, super nourishing, not sticky or drying. As someone who doesn’t have lip filler, I appreciate the plump boost.

I also love my Le Chouchou. The colors? Alll so stunning (don’t miss Fig Sauce)!

Lipstick: Signature Lip/Lip Blush & Lip Ciggy’s
So many great Merit shades, such great formulas, you can’t go wrong! Ginger has been on heavy rotation for me, also Baby and Kitten Heel is in my cart. And as for Lip Ciggy, Overdrive is my favorite but they’re all stunning. For liners, I love Beverly Hills and the Overliners.

HAIR:

Shampoo & conditioner: RŌZ always!
Clean, smells amazing and I don’t know what it is about this formula but it lets me get away with washing less.

Hydrating hair mask: Foundation
This marinating in my hair while I exfoliate my face with this in the shower…bliss!

Air-dried products that go the distance: This mousse and/or a magical combo of milk + oil
Just trust me on these, total out the door wet hair heroes.

A quick rub like a bar of soap and you’re done!

Leisurely exfoliator: Perfect Body Scrub
For when you have a little time to treat yourself, this is v nice. Also, this body lactic acid polish is in my Sephora cart.

Hydrating gel: Speed Soak
When you want/need to hydrate but have no time to wait while whatever you slathered on dries.

Hydrating body serum: 24-hour serum
If you prefer a serum, this is great and smells amazing.

Firming lotion: Anti-aging body balm
Ok, this is my favorite new body-care product in my routine. It’s not a lotion, it’s not a serum, they call it a balm but to me, it’s not that either. It’s more like a milk and the formula is just so good! It’s not for fast drying days but it’s incredible when you have a little extra time.

Standard lotions: Luminous or Carea
Easy, solid classics. Also, this is very luxurious, I keep it next to my bed and use on my hands and arms before bed (rotating in this retinol every few nights on my hands).

Cult status for a reason.

I’ve always liked rules. In fact, my husband would tell you I’m a rule follower. I like the loose ones, the strict ones and the color-inside-the-lines kind. But more than anything, I like life rules. The sensible rules that come from living, the ones that feel like truths, the kind your grandmother passed down, a friend influenced, or best of all, the ones you learn and earn as life teaches you firsthand.

Since I was little, I’ve scribbled these kind of rules down everywhere…in my notebooks, on the backs of receipts, on school books which I meticulously covered with brown grocery bags, on post-its, in the margins of planners and now, in my notes app. Little mantra-like reminders that help keep focus and in pursuit of a good life.

Here’s 25 of those rules, part one of a running list as it stands today. Subject to change, subject to contradiction, subject to forgetting and relearning, because one rule I subscribe to is that some rules are meant to be broken:

1. The most important relationship in your life is the one with yourself. Treat yourself well and kindly.

2. The only person in control of you is you. Your thoughts, your reactions, your behavior, your life, your everything.

3. Keep what’s sacred, sacred: children, husband, time, etc.

4. Keep a treat in the pantry.

5. Life happens in the in-between, savor it, notice it, enjoy the small moments and the ordinary days. In the aggregate, it’s the majority of your life.

6. Honor where you are.

7. When your children, husband or friends talk to you when your phone is in your hand, put it down, look them in the eyes and be with the in that moment.

I’ve been fully leaning into the time change this week, soaking up the extra outside time with the children with lots of swing set hangs, long walks, digging in the dirt…all culminating in a sunset outdoor shower, which they treat less as a hygiene necessity and more as a water play activity. The problem with drinking is that it’s great.

It’s social, it comes in a beautiful glass and arrives with the promise that the day is officially over. It pairs well with laughter, long dinners, celebrations, good lighting, and people you love. It says, “relax, you’ve earned this.”

But here’s the part that really gets me: I always feel better when I don’t drink (I swear this use to not be the case!). Every time now, without fail. This isn’t a mystery, the data is solid and yet, usually on a Sunday night, the night I’ve very strategically deemed “lowest risk,” I’ll do it again. A small, calculated indulgence. One glass, mayyybe two, a totally reasonable adult amount. The kind that should end well but it never does, not in a classic head throbbing hangover way just…inconveniently. The next morning I’m fine but I’m not 100%. My energy is muted, my brain feels slow to load, my patience is thinner, my nervous system is dysregulated and my focus is fuzzy. I’m showing up, but not sparkling, not as sharp, not my preferred operating system, not my best mom or work self. Which is rude, considering how little I drank.

Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That’s me, sipping one glass of wine or having a tequila soda and somehow believing it will end differently…until maybe now?

I think I’m finally getting to a place where it’s time to adjust my relationship to drinking even further. I’m not quitting or announcing anything dramatic but I’m tired of noticing that something I enjoy in the moment reliably makes me feel worse the next day. Maybe this is a season of drinking bi-weekly or monthly? Reserved for special occasions or when it really feels worth it? Driven all by my beaming affection for waking up clear-headed and steady each and every day, a feeling that may just be the greatest luxury of all.

Last week, walking into the grocery store, I saw a girl sitting in her car eating Flaming Hot Cheetos with chopsticks. Chopsticks!

I actually stopped and laughed, not at her but in recognition, because it was so specific, so deliberate, so…private. And immediately I thought: secret car behavior!

Last year I wrote about secret single behavior, the slightly unhinged, deeply personal rituals we only do when no one is watching, a phrase popularized from that one Sex and the City episode. But secret car behavior? It’s its own subculture. The car is a strange in-between space that’s not home, it’s not work and yet, it’s tangentially both. A satellite office, a temporary living room, a back hall closet, a private annex of your life that you’re not fully alone in, but also alone enough. And in that liminal pocket, very specific habits emerge.

For me? Eating Sweetgreen alone in my car when I’m in LA. A very specific joy usually in a parking spot I fed a meter $5 for, making each bite that much more of a delight. It feels indulgent in a way that’s almost absurd, until of course, someone pulls up next to you, idling, gesturing, silently willing you to vacate the spot they’ve already decided is theirs but it’s yours for $5 more worth and you will eat your salad there in peace! LA desperation parking drama aside, it’s almost like a wellness ritual. Eating all those greens alone, unbothered, zenned out, windows sealed.

Hi and happy Sunday, the last before spring forward!

Like the rest of the world, I’ve consumed an irresponsible amount of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy discourse this week. Pouring over her Calvin Klein minimalism, the slip dresses, the elegance, the refusal of ornament. In awe of his great looks, his composure, the posture, the ease, his wardrobe, his hair, the almost old-world rhythm in the way he walked. Stunned all over again by the tragedy, contemplating the what ifs….how different the world may be. And what really arrests me, besides the aesthetics and alluring couple, is 1990s Manhattan, life pre-digital anesthesia. Payphones, voicemails on answering machines, running into someone by chance and not knowing what they’ve been up to per social media. There’s something undeniably electric about it all….the anticipation, the mystery, the not knowing, the presentness, the authenticity, the serendipity….

There comes a point in every woman’s life when you start to notice subtle shifts in your skin. For me, it happened in my mid 30s, when hormonal pregnancy melasma spread across my cheekbones, its own little world map. And on that map, the faintest, soft lines began to appear, mostly around my eyes, two barely-there on my forehead, and the earliest hint of parentheses earned from years of laughter. They weren’t dramatic, they didn’t bother me, I just…noticed.

The other thing I noticed? The same products, applied the same way, with the same expectations no longer delivered the same results. Things I loved began to perform differently, blending differently, wearing differently, sitting differently. My skin was developing opinions at the exact moment my face discovered gravity. So, I adjusted. I got hyper-focused on skincare, started playing and experimenting with formulas, learning new techniques, and re-calibrating my routine to meet my skin where it was.

I’m now 42 and have learned what truly makes a difference: the products, the way they’re applied, the tips, the tricks, the secrets! And for what it’s worth, I’ve never had Botox or filler which is not as a statement, just for context. Everything in this list comes down to strategy, consistency, and knowing how to work with what you’ve got.

1. Clinically Proven
At this stage, it’s no longer enough to trust that skincare will do what it promises, I want proof. So, I look for clinical trials, efficacy data, and real results on real women. Tell me what was tested, how it was tested, and what actually changed (for example, this!). And I love a before-and-after. I am more likely to buy from a clinically proven brand, regardless of chic packaging or great marketing, because results are what I’m after.

2. Lift, Lift, Lift
Once gravity enters the chat, everything becomes about the lift. And speaking of clinically proven results and lifting, one of my favorite tools in that department is the ZIIP HALO 2.0. 3. Skin Cycling + My Routine
I started skin cycling to address multiple concerns without overdoing it and it’s a great way to check all the boxes, here’s my usual routine (which is currently on hold post-laser, opting for super hydrating sensitive creams instead, I’m using this one specifically):

• Night 1: Exfoliate

  An exfoliant to remove dead skin and smooth texture is essential for me. I really like this one, followed by some really heavy hitting anti-aging serums/moisturizer (my favorites here which I’d amend to include this oil).

• Night 2: Retinol

  For cell turnover, fine lines, and overall skin health. Like this or this.

• Night 3: Hyper-pigmentation

  A melasma targeting active like this or this followed by moisturizer.

• Night 4: Recovery+

  Full recovery mode with great serums and moisturizers (my best of beauty list here).

Then I repeat. It keeps my skin calm, responsive, and consistently improving.

4. Daily SPF
Protection from the sun is one of the simplest, most effective ways to preserve your skin. I wear SPF daily and hats as often as possible.

For SPF, I typically rotate between a tinted formula, a classic sunscreen under makeup, or a hybrid SPF with a touch of bronzer and glow. The tinted option is perfect for light coverage days, a traditional SPF layers beautifully beneath makeup, and a glowy hybrid is my go-to when I need to get out the door quickly, especially for morning drop-off around here.

5. My Complexion Products Trick
You know that look…foundation, settled into lines, dried down in a way that actually ages the face? That’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid.

Mixing skincare into complexion products like moisturizer, serum, glow, keeps coverage flexible and skin-like and is one of my best secrets. You still get correction, but with hydration, movement, and all-day skincare benefits. It reads fresh, not tired.

One of my favorite combos when I wear more makeup: foundation drops + super glowy gel + a pump of moisturizer.

6. Blush
With makeup in general, it’s all about placement and lifting, especially with blush. I learned to place it higher on the cheekbones, slightly toward the temples to lift.

I’ve found cream and balm formulas that aren’t too pigmented add softness and volume without looking “dated.” And again, when applying, I always blend upward even when using my hands.

7. Concealer
Less product, applied strategically at the inner and outer corners and blended up toward the temples for a subtle lift, is my everyday approach. It gives a natural finish that doesn’t settle into fine lines.

My newer discovery/secret is using a brush, I love this one, which makes the biggest difference with texture. It helps move the formula out of the places you don’t want it, almost like lightly sweeping dust off the floor.

And if I have a few extra minutes, I’ll layer a primer like this concealer (I’ve been especially into this and this lately). It’s such a simple trick, but it makes everything look smoother and more refined.

Hi! And happy Sunday! It was ski week for the children, but there was no skiing for us. We stayed home which was gloriously ordinary, blissfully unscheduled and absolutely delightful. Mornings without anywhere to be, no lunches to pack and no chorus of “Mom, where are my black jeans from yesterday?!” ricocheting down the hallway. Hiii how are we doing? I was in LA this week, mostly sitting beneath fluorescent lighting in a tall glass building working all day. Followed by sitting in another tall glass building under equally as aggressive fluorescent but this time, at the derm. I did my annual full-body skin check and figured while I’m there (read planned this for months!), I may as well knock out a couple of of lasers opting for CO2 under my eyes and one all over for resurfacing/melasma/blah blah blah. I’ve yet to do botox or filler so am hopeful for some nice results with my fine lines. Time will tell!

Last year I caught myself rushing my children in and out of the car even though we had nowhere we actually needed to be. We were going to the grocery store to pick up a few things, then heading right back home with no real agenda. And yet, I was still hurrying them along. It was as though I was watching myself from the outside, slightly embarrassed, judging my own urgency as I pushed them forward, “Come on, let’s go,” for no real reason at all.

One of them stopped to adjust her baby doll, another started telling me something that clearly felt very important…and I almost rushed that, too. That moment screamed at me in the way life tends to. Because there’s a difference between being busy, feeling rushed and rushing through your life. One is about time, the other is about your nervous system, the external/internal pressure that keeps whispering hurry, be more productive, get sh*t done. And the last is about missing out.

Standing there that day, three little humans with perfectly round, marble-shaped, curious eyes looking up at me, I was washed with clarity that I don’t want to treat the very life I love as something to get through. I don’t want to treat the ordinary parts of my day like obstacle courses…the slow walk to the car, the shoe that needed to be tied again, the story that began three different times before finally landing. I know there will be a time, sooner than I’m ready for, when no one needs help with their shoes or their hair or their buttons. When no one is telling me a backseat story or pulling on my arm to show me a bug or when getting out of the car isn’t a whole to-do. And when those moments come, I want to look back knowing I didn’t spend those years rushing through the very moments I’ll miss most. Because the ordinary, messy, in-between moments aren’t the obstacle, they are the our life.

I drove home, mad at myself, and decided then and there that I was done with unnecessary rushing. I was going to, very intentionally, rush less. And avoid passing down the low-grade, anxiety-laced urgency that seems to hover just beneath the surface of our culture. I don’t want to teach my children to rush through their lives, but instead to be present in them, to savor them, to enjoy them.

What I’ve realized, as I’ve been unraveling the rushing ways over the last several months, is that so much of what feels frantic in our days isn’t the schedule itself, it’s the speed we bring to the room. The self-manufactured urgency that we’re drumming along to. When we slow down, it changes the energy and the day becomes something we’re inside of, instead of something we’re trying to outrun. Paying attention to the moments I’m tempted to fast-forward through has been the single most effective way to feel and be less rushed. And besides the self-awareness, these 21 changes made a big difference:

There’s been a lot of conversation lately about nervous systems. About regulation, dysregulation, how ours impact our children’s and the growing fixation on resetting. About how much of our need to self-soothe is personal and how much of it is systemic. About getting outside, touching grass and finding ways to stay steady in a world that feels increasingly unsteady.

Which brings me to today’s topic: mood regulators. The choices we make throughout the day that shape and/or recalibrate our lives to help keep our nervous systems steady. The small, repeatable go-to’s to keep in our emotional tool-kits to help expand our emotional capacity so we can hold reality as it is, the hard parts and the good parts (and the hormonal days). We each have our own, here are twenty-six that work for me:

1. A hot shower.

2. Putting your hands on your chest and feeling your heartbeat for 5-10 breaths. Your pulse works nicely, too.

3. Stretching your neck, jaw, and hips where tension hides.

4. Choosing rest without earning it.

5. Stepping outside without your phone, even briefly.

6. Drinking a full glass of water at the pace that feels right for you.

7. Getting dressed like you’re going somewhere, even when you’re not.
