There’s something oddly satisfying about an empty beauty product, isn’t there? It means it was good enough to earn its keep, used consistently and loved all the way to the very last drop!

In the last two weeks I found myself running out of more products than usual which felt like the perfect reason to round up some summer empty-bottle MVPs. We’re talking the products I squeezed, scraped and pumped until there was nothing left and reordered before they were totally gone. Think body care for summer skin, SPF, a little makeup and the hair products I never let the shower go without.

Mid-summer check-in! How are we doing? How’s your summer shaping up? What’s earning permanent status in your rotation?

Somewhere between trips to London, the East Coast, and a handful of LA visits, I found myself collecting little notes on what women were carrying, wearing, and reaching for. Add in the pieces I’ve been living in myself and today’s newsletter is exactly that: a brain dump of what’s currently on my mind, on my body, and in my cart.

ON MY MIND:

1. Beaded bags
   The number of beaded bags dangling from shoulders and swinging through my last two LA trips has me officially searching for the one. Fun, fun, cute, slightly more tailored from the Nordstrom anniversary sale, goood vintage Paco Rabanne (another one), ooohhh or this one if I were to splurge. Any faves?

2. Souvenir sandals

   You know the ones! The unexpected pair of beaded or embellished interesting sandals that feel like they’re from a chic little shop from your last trip. A treasure of a shoe that makes every outfit that much more interesting.

3. Canvas bags

   We can all thank The Row Idaho tote (there are a handful second hand ones here, this one in particular is in good condition) for the onset of elevated canvas bags and now they’re everywhere from the Jenni Kayne Gem tote to the Gem tote bucket and this $55 garden bag from Nicky Kehoe (not to mention all The Row coded ones all over IG).

4. Sunglasses

   Sunglasses are in a fun in-between moment where it feels like everything is fair game and I’m so inspired by it! From the smaller round frames we wore all last year to Jackie O moments like these and these to sportier bigger moments like these and these. These have been all over my feed, too. Everything works which makes it extra fun this season! I splurged on these on my last LA trip.

5. Shorts

   Shorts, shorts, shorts! The 2026 summer staple. These could be fun, also these, chic and unexpected, slouchy cool girl.

ON MY BODY:

Dresses/tops

• The DÔEN Nessie! I own it in both black and white and reach for them constantly. Errands, the pool, the hottest days when it’s too warm for anything else…these are it. And come fall? Add a barn jacket and cowboy boots, I can already picture it.

• Eyeing this tassled Posse which feels like it would be a great in-between summer fall dress when evenings are cooler.

• Two other noteworthy tops: added this to my closet and love it, also this was sent to me and it’s so pretty for evening.

Shorts/Pants

• Easy pants: linens pants that go the distance from bopping around the farm to the city, tafetta for something fun and I’m eying these.

• Shorts: have worn these tailored easy pair quite a bit.

• Easy uniform: something long like this or this or this or this with vintage Levi’s or a good straight leg like these (good Nordstrom Anniversary sale find!). My default when I can’t think.

Shoes

• These vegan leather flip flops (they come in lots of colors) are this years version of the rubber Birkenstocks for me. So easy, so comfortable, so easy to wipe off no matter how wet or dusty they get. 10/10 rec.

• Eyeing: It feels like the next iteration of the Alaia flats are mules and these Gianvito Rossi Calypso raffia sandals for summer fancy casual.

Swimsuits

• Bikini: This bottom was the first bikini bottom I felt good in since having children and I’m still going strong with it. I’m not sure what it is about it but it sucks everything in and is flattering on everyone. There are many top options but I personally have had luck with this one and just ordered this one. Easy to chase after children without worry and still feel good in it.

• One-piece: I like this streamlined one-piece, simple and chic, easy.

• Sarong: If you’re looking for just the right length sarong for perching on the pool step, one that covers your bum but doesn’t trail in the water while wrangling a toddler, this one is great and so is this one.

You know what I’ve come to really appreciate? The before of good things.

The stretch of time between booking the trip and the morning it finally begins, when I’m planning itineraries and outfits and romanticizing everything that’s ahead. The joy of finally snagging the impossible dinner reservation, then looking forward to it once it’s on the calendar. Concert tickets sitting in your inbox months before the show, the package marked Out for Delivery, setting the table before friends arrive for dinner. The first warm day in March that hints at summer and everything it promises, the roses covered in tight little buds before they’ve begun to bloom. The week before a baby is born, when your whole world is about to change and you can only imagine who they’re going to be.

There’s something about the not yet that feels full of possibility, you know? Being on the precipice of something great! Even as a child, I remember this feeling. Especially as a child! The night before the first day of school, birthday eve, the countdown to summer vacation. Then of course, as I got older, there was the anticipation wrapped up in dating and falling in love. The flirtations, the what-ifs, the butterflies before the first date, obsessing over the outfit, getting ready to be picked up, imagining how the future might unfold.

I have a theory: a special kind of social magic happens at hotel pools.

Take a little trip with me and hear me out….

You’re there, you settle into a lounge chair and take one big exhale. You spend a few unhurried hours under an umbrella, finally open the book that’s been sitting on your nightstand for months, watch your children swim, or better yet, swim with them like you’re a kid again. You order lunch in a bathing suit and somehow anything brought over on a cute little tray feels impossibly perfect.

No one is trying to get through their inbox, in fact, they’re actively avoiding it. Phones are shoved deep into the bottoms of straw bags, naps are had, maybe a drink or two is ordered and no one has a hard stop to rush off to the next thing. The collective energy is happier, less stressed, more generous. People are lingering and lingering has become a surprisingly rare luxury.

I went to London fully expecting to come home with a neatly packaged report for you on what the cool women were wearing. Because if there’s one thing I love, it’s people-watching, absorbing it all, connecting the dots, and trying to make sense of the cultural mood through what people wore.

Before arriving, I anticipated that the London archetypes would stand out, the trends would be clear, uniforms obvious and the “it” bags/shoes/jewelry practically announcing themselves on every corner (like they do in LA and New York, ehhhh hem). And while a few archetypes and trends certainly emerged, what surprised me most was how few there actually were. Instead, the thing I kept noticing was much harder to define: individuality.

Slices of nectarines and peaches layered over peppery arugula with fresh torn basil, a generous drizzle of olive oil, flaky salt/fresh ground pepper, and whatever beautiful vinegar happens to be in the pantry. It takes almost no effort, looks gorgeous on the table, and tastes like peak summer.

A sweet life lesson from the sunflowers

We planted a sunflower field this year, and the other day as we were walking by it, the children noticed that the sunflowers waiting to bloom always face the direction of the sun. And because I can’t help myself, I immediately said, “That’s actually a pretty great life lesson. To always reach for the warmth, for what feels like sunshine, for what helps you grow.”

It may sound a little cheesy, but standing there watching those sunflowers follow the light, it was a beautiful reminder and it moved me! A real joy sparker.

The sarong covering my bum

You know what was missing from my life? A black sarong to wrap around my bum over swimsuits. It has become my unofficial summer uniform while chasing a two-year-old around the pool, crouching to pick up goggles, standing on the pool steps, applying sunscreen for the seventeenth time and generally trying to maintain a shred of dignity.

Simple, chic, practical and a true summer hero. This one gives the same feel for a little less.

A dress for a Malibu wedding

We have a few weddings on the calendar this summer, the first of which is in Malibu and I ordered this dress earlier this week after pleasantly finding it on sale. It’s one of those dresses that can be worn for all sorts of different occasions, day (luncheon or showers) or night (cocktail parties, fancy dinners), which is always a win in my book.

Walkie-talkies for the girls

In an effort to give the girls a little more independence this summer, we put fresh batteries in their walkie-talkies to let them roam outside solo. It’s become almost a daily event and it’s cute when they radio in to say hi, ask for snacks, or provide critical farm updates (chicken on the loose!). It’s adorable and just the right amount of independence for them and me.

A spray mineral SPF

I love this mineral SPF spray from Freaks of Nature. It’s easy on the kids, on me and on repeat. We’ve been going through it so quickly that I’ve started ordering two at a time. One for the pool bag, one for the front door. Because if summer has taught me anything, it’s that sunscreen somehow disappears faster than popsicles.

We just got back from a family trip to the East Coast followed by a solo trip to London from there, and because I always love peeking inside other people’s travel bags, I thought, why not share a few things that have earned a coveted spot in mine.

I’m very proud to report that I did carry-on only for myself for both legs of the trip (a first for me!). Technically yes, there were two bags total, one for the East Coast and one for London, but both carry-on size and the East Coast bag was checked solely because I needed overhead bin real estate for what can only be described as a Santa Claus-level sack of toys to keep my two-year-old entertained (every last thing I ordered is linked below).

Traveling carry-on only unlocked a new level of discernment, hyper-organization, and perhaps most importantly, letting go of my usual packing philosophy: but what if I need it? (Except for the toddler carry-on). I’m notoriously susceptible to the allure of a good “just in case” item. This trip, however, forced me to be ruthless. If something didn’t earn its place, it stayed home.

And it turns out, the things that saved the day while traveling weren’t an extra pair of shoes. They’re the tiny comforts that take up almost no space and make you feel a little more human when you’re tired, hungry, delayed, or far from home.

The Stand-Up Toiletry Bag

This toiletry bag is one of those products that solves a problem you didn’t realize was annoying you until it’s gone. It unzips and stands upright, which means the second I arrive, everything is visible and accessible instead of piled at the bottom of a makeup bag like a game of cosmetic roulette. Nothing leaks, nothing gets lost, nothing requires excavation. A small luxury that makes every hotel bathroom feel instantly civilized.

Because when I’m rushing through airports, I can’t be worrying about things falling out of my bag. Enter this lightweight Italian leather carryall: it folds flat, weighs next to nothing, and zips closed so everything stays exactly where it should.

The Beauty Lineup

I was ruthlessly edited this trip with beauty. No “just in case” products, no extras, just the essentials and carry-on size approved:

• La Roche-Posay Micellar Cleansing Water makeup remover in mini.

• This RŌZ mini essentials kit has shampoo, conditioner, milk hair serum and their oil (it’s so great, I only brought the shampoo & conditioner though, told you I went minimal!)

• Glowy Super Gel mini.

• Speed soaked rehydrating gel put in one of these capsules.

• Dr. Bronnners bar soap always.

Not a mini but the Tata sensitive cream came with me too as my skin loves to freak out while traveling and this helped it stay calm.

If a product can’t justify the suitcase real estate, it doesn’t make the trip. I even left my favorite bronzer brush at home because it took up too much room in my smaller makeup bag. Growth.

Color Palette

I went with mostly black and white to keep things streamlined and manageable for my brain, as packing for our entire family already consumed a significant amount of my mental bandwidth. We had several family events on the East Coast, and some of what I packed included this skirt in cream which I wore with a pretty old black Rohe top, this easy top with jeans, this top and these pants which are also great separates, this top, these pants, this dress for the pool (love this one and this one too but didn’t end up packing for this trip) which is also cute for strolling around, an easy black cardigan, a cropped trench and a long trench (it was cooold in London!). And for heels, I brought a pair of very comfortable old Jimmy Choo’s, similar to these.

And a steamer. Always a steamer.

Post-travels my girlfriend shared this sudoku packing hack with me and I’m so doing it next time, brilliant!

Protein and Warmth on the Go

Kroma bone broth packets are a dream! They have 15 grams of protein, take up no space and having these on hands means you’re always one cup of hot water away from something warm, cozy, and nourishing.

Hydration to Feel Alive

Sure did bring Mini Dew, sure did add it to my water, sure did rely on it heavily to help me feel human. Sure dew love it. (See what I did there?)

The In-Flight Beauty Luxury

I love watching those wildly elaborate airplane get-ready-with-me videos where people seem to unpack an entire Sephora at 35,000 feet complete with de-puffing eye patches perfectly timed for landing, but I don’t think that will ever be me. Which is probably why I enjoy watching them so much.

For me, a super-hydrating face mist (love this one) and a lip balm are enough. A few sprays and swipes somewhere over the Atlantic can convince you you’re thriving when you’re actually surviving on four hours of sleep.

Jet Lag Remedy

One thing I packed to help push through jet lag that worked: Moon Juice Magnesi-Om. A game changer for sleep!

One Pair of Shoes for London

This may be controversial, but I only packed one pair of shoes for London and wore them on the plane.

I built every outfit around them because I know I can comfortably walk 15,000 steps a day in them without issue. To be fair, it was cold, rainy, and my itinerary completely supported the decision.

Still, I never once wished I had packed another pair, which feels like perhaps the strongest endorsement possible.

The SOS In-Flight Toddler Haul

I called on all of my mom friends who somehow always seem to know the answers, ordered nearly everything they recommended, and then packed all of it.

Here is the two-year-old playbook: stickikubes, rolls of colored masking tape and lots of sticky notes, wikki stix, magmen, sensory slap bracelets, mess free fingerpainting, a stamp sticker activity, a tape activity, a new tape measure (Jack’s favorite toy) and a montessori busy board. And snacks, lots and lots of snacks.

For my 6 & 8 year old girls: 2-in-1 magnetic checkers & tic-tac-toe, sensory slap bracelets, coloring books and sticky rolls (they loved this).

This surprisingly leanly packed trip was a reminder that a lot of forethought can buy a lot of ease. Fewer bags to lug around, fewer decisions to make, and far less mental clutter. I may just be a carry-on convert (but don’t hold me to it!).

And besides, the best parts of any trip are never in the suitcase anyway. They’re the people, the conversations, the memories, and the moments you wish you could bottle up and bring home.

Scribbled in bubble letters across car windows are high school graduates’ names, proud little milestones parading around town. Side-by-side first-and-last day-of-school photos are popping up, a super clear visual of how much can change in a school year (we haven’t done ours yet but the way they induce pure joy and absolute devastation!). Prom came and went, commencement speeches are filling stadiums, and the internet, and summer is about to officially begin.

Sweet, sweet summer! A season that arrives with equal parts nostalgia, possibility, and that unmistakable feeling that something is ending just as something new begins. It can make you feel the passage of time in a way that sneaks up on you, like, how is it the end of the school year, wasn’t it just Halloween?! But also, and maybe more so, the milestones, the moving up, the looking back, the realization that life is always changing, often faster than we’re ready.

In the midst of the year end reminders, I came across this piece of data and had one of those stop-you-in-your-tracks moments. The kind that reminds you of something so precious, it hurts. Are you ready?

You only get:
1 summer with your baby
3 with your toddler
9 with your child
5 with your teenager

One summer there’s a baby, where everything is firsts. First time feeling grass, first beach, first sticky fingers wrapped around yours. You’re tired, yes, but you’re also holding something that will never exist in this exact way again.

Three summers with your toddler. Three. The years of chubby legs, mispronounced words, the chaos and comedy of it all. The years that feel endless in the moment and impossibly brief in hindsight.

Nine summers where they’re a child. This is a stretch that may feel like it lasts forever, until suddenly, it doesn’t. The bike rides, the camp drop-offs, the independence slowly creeping in. You’re still their world, but you can feel it expanding.

And then five summers with your teenager. Five. The years where they’re half in, half out. Where you’re holding on while also learning to let go. Where presence matters more than ever, but looks different than it used to.

When you break it down like this, into seasons and into summers, it gives you pause. Eighteen years may sound long but seen this way, it feels achingly fast. It makes you want to stay a little longer in what’s right in front of you, to look up more, to linger, to take more photos, to not rush through the ordinary parts, because the ordinary parts are the whole thing. There’s something about seeing the timeline laid out like this that reminds you that THIS IS IT. This version, this age, this exact season….and it will change, it always does.

That’s the beauty and the heartbreak of parenting, isn’t it? Falling in love with one version of your child, only for it to pass and move onto the next for you to fall in love with. Grieving the end of a season while being handed a new exciting one at the very same time. Your baby becomes your toddler, your toddler becomes your child, your child becomes your teenager, your teenager becomes your adult, and you keep loving, releasing, and beginning again all at once. Your greatest loves all in a row. If I think about it too long, every diaper or shoe size outgrown, every tooth lost, every mispronounced word corrected, every stretch taller, every grade moved on from, every stage aged out of, it feels like my heart could burst….ohhhh motherhood!

So, here’s to savoring this summer, to making it count, to being in it with your people, whatever stage you may find yourself in. ♥️

I was on the phone with my girlfriend Angela, the kind of friend you get deep with, and it was either around her birthday or maybe it was New Year’s…I can’t remember exactly, but it was one of those naturally reflective pockets of time. A timestamp where, like clockwork, you start talking and thinking about what you want in your life, what’s next, what you’re craving more of and what you hope this next chapter feels like.

And she said something that lodged itself in my brain and took up residence.

“I want to be in new rooms.”

Two words that were so meaningful to her, new and rooms, that she not only made them a goal and shared them with me, but later considered building an entire podcast around the namesake, social handles secured and all.

What she meant by it wasn’t literally new rooms, necessarily. Not villa-in-Italy new rooms. It was more than different places, it was about different energy, different conversations and different proximity. Rooms where she doesn’t already know everyone, rooms where she isn’t the most certain or the most comfortable, rooms that ask something of her, rooms that stretch her perspective, sharpen her thinking and expand her world.

After that, it became our little code.

New rooms!

And anytime one of us is stepping into something unfamiliar, whether it’s a meeting, a dinner, a work opportunity, a trip, an introduction, or even just saying yes to something slightly outside our normal rhythm, one of us will text the other: New rooms!

Equal parts encouragement and reminder. A little nudge toward expansion, toward continuing to evolve instead of repeating and toward exploring the unknown. And maybe most importantly, toward staying awake in your own life.

Because to me, new rooms is ultimately about feeling alive. That edge of discomfort, the nerves, the butterflies, the stretch, the push and pull. The unfamiliarity, the place where growth pushes you and happens simply by being inside the unknown. It’s about the things that wake you up from autopilot and pull you out of the comfort of complacency. Something I’ve been hyper-focused on this year: what makes me feel most alive?

So I’m sharing it with you today as a little reminder to keep in your pocket. A nudge toward the thing that feels slightly unfamiliar, slightly (or majorly) expansive and maybe even scary. The things that will make 80-year-old you proud you did them.

What happens when you aren’t ready to subscribe to Botox or filler but want a little juuuj, a little refresh, a little something that makes you look a bit more rested, a bit more vibrant, a bit more put together but still entirely like yourself?

Because so much of the conversation around tweakments feels strangely either all-or-nothing and/or completely polarizing. You either freeze your face or “let yourself go.” You either over-correct and look different, or you opt out entirely, fading into the abyss. You’re either for it or protesting against it. But I think a LOT of women exist somewhere in the middle.

I know I do.

I want to look and feel my best but I don’t want to do anything drastic, I want to look like me but not a super plumped up, no fine lines version of me either. Which leads me to all the questions: What is there to actually do if you’re somewhere in the middle? What is less invasive that’s worth it? What moves the needle and what genuinely makes a visible difference without tipping into that uncanny territory where you start looking less like yourself? What feels supportive rather than corrective? Enhancing instead of erasing?

To answer these questions, I asked you all on IG what you’re actually doing. What’s worked, what was worth the money, what you’d absolutely do again and what you’d skip. And the responses were great (obviously, you’re the best!), it was also reassuring to hear that so many of us are in the same boat and that there’s a very clear philosophy emerging. It’s less about overhaul, more about maintenance and less about reconstruction and more about regeneration. It’s about dabbling and don’t overdoing it. Overall, there was a strong sense that the A-list world of 30-something face lifts and disappearing eyelids isn’t it and it’s more about a thoughtful, intentional version of aging well, subtly and considered. And yes, with very very good skincare (worth a mention that it’s currently the Violet Grey ‘put it in the bag event’ which is 20% off Augustinus Bader, Dr. Diamond’s Metacine (this is in my cart, so curious!) Angela Caglia, Eighth Day, et al!). And of course, many many many reminded us all that you don’t have to do anything at all, you’re beautiful just as you are! Which I agree with.

MICRONEEDLING (the clear winner)
