THE WEEKLY EDIT:
Searching on Etsy: “Vintage Loden Coat”
I read on this Substack that typing in the keywords “vintage loden coat” into Etsy is like the “open sesame” of vintage outerwear. So many great oversized, structured, chic, and perfect coats are based on these very specific keywords (which refer to the special processing and treating of wool to make it thicker and more structured). Hot tip!
Listening to: Huberman Lab
I go in and out of phases where I listen to podcasts and recently, I’ve found myself regularly tuning into Huberman Lab. From ways to enhance working memory to preventing colds & flu to what alcohol does to your brain, I’m constantly learning from him and his wonderful guests.
Removing: My info from the internet
There's a Google feature called “results about you” which helps you remove personal contact info, like your home address, phone number and/or email address in search results. I tried it, it took no time, and scrubbed my info off a handful of random sites. Here’s how to do it.
Ordered: Nike Firm Support Leggings
I caught a bad glimpse of myself in workout pants the other day and immediately polled my girlfriends for their compressive and firming legging recommendations. Apparently, these Nike firm-support leggings are it! Not sure how I never got the memo? I ordered them and will keep you posted!
Using: Kate McLeod Daily Stone
Since the moment my skin came into contact with the wildly nourishing Kate McLeod Daily Stone, it was moisturizing bliss! Kate, a former pastry chef, started using her favorite ingredients such as cocoa butter to combat dry winter skin and that's when the light bulb went on. She got busy in the kitchen, perfecting her recipe for a nutrient-rich lotion bar and that's how her beautiful brand was born. I just love a great organic founder story like that, don't you? Since launching in 2018, the nourishing body stones have become a cult favorite, myself included. They're wildly nourishing, a great self-care ritual and I appreciate how sustainable they are (made without water and plastic). I also have a 20% off discount code for you, use: GERI20.
ALRIGHT, LET’S GET INTO IT:
Deciding on a Third
Reader request (by quite a few of you, actually!).
Growing up, I wasn’t the type of girl who dreamed about my wedding and I never thought much about how many children I’d have. And for a portion of my 20s, I’d provocatively declare "I may not have them at all!" There was no question in my mind, though when I fell in love with my husband, I had a deep primal desire to have his children, which was one of the many reasons I knew he was the one. But how many? I wasn’t sure.
Would we be able to conceive? What type of children would we have? What type of mother would I become? What could our marriage handle? What was feasible financially? How would it work with my career? Etc. When people would ask how many we wanted, it felt disingenuous to toss out an arbitrary number based on a fantasy family with said unknowns looming. Unknowns that, as the answers would unfold, would create the energy of our home/family, which is something that is really important to me. I strive to provide a calm, happy, and loving environment - one that swallows you up like a big cozy couch. The kind you never want to get up from and look forward to falling back into each and every time, your favorite blanket and snacks included. And a lot of that coziness, in my opinion, is derived from me, the mother. A coziness that for quite some time, I felt like another child would compromise.
Here’s what changed and ultimately pushed us to have a third:
