Finding Your Deeper Well
THE WEEKLY EDIT:
Girls’ Bath Towels & Mat: Scallops
Bit by bit, I’m ticking off tasks from my endless “finish this house” list, and one of the items this week was towels for the girls’ bathroom. How sweet are these scalloped towels with a coordinating bath mat from Anthropologie? I also ordered these hand towels in ‘neutral motif’ for our pink powder room. Oh, and, a bow hair claw clip for me!
Spring fever: Silk pieces
It was 80 degrees yesterday and absolutely beautiful! It had me longing to live in summer dresses, so naturally, I found myself browsing the DÔEN site. Ohhhh all the gorgeous silks, like this stunning slip with lace-trimmed straps, an easy skirt (the mustard color is everywhere on my Instagram feed right now - anyone else?), and for something other than silk, this crisp poplin dress. I do also love an eyelit top with denim which is so easy and breastfeeding friendly.
Snacking on: Parmesean crisps
These Parmesan crisps are delicious! I can’t stop reaching for them and really appreciate the 9 grams of protein.
Nighttime routine last step: SIDIA hand serum
Because these tired, endlessly washed, and aging hands need extra attention.
Planting: Sunflowers, wildflowers, vegetables, oh my!
We had our last freeze, and I hit the ground running with spring seeding! I’m attempting another sunflower patch (last year’s seeds were eaten by bunnies so it never materialized), tossed tons of wildflower seeds on the hillside near the bees, and started a very small veggie patch. Next up, herbs!
ALRIGHT, LET’S GET INTO IT:
Finding Your Deeper Well
This week's newsletter topic is inspired by two female icons: Kacey Musgraves and Pamela Anderson. Two beautiful entertainers from different worlds and decades, yet their words have cross-inspired me to dive into my deeper well, metaphorically. Let me explain...
Like many of you (I'm assuming!), I've been listening to Kacey Musgraves's new album, Deeper Well, since it was released last week. I've always appreciated her bold, thought-provoking lyrics, and though I still have a lot to dissect when it comes to her new album, her title track stopped me in my tracks with the lyric, "I've gotten older now. I know how to take care of myself. I found a deeper well."
Maybe it's because I've been a fan of her music and have listened to her explore love, heartbreak, judgment, criticism, self-doubt, acceptance, letting go, aging, moving on, and lots of things we, as women, go through. Or maybe it's because what she's referencing—a deeper well—is something I've also been searching for.
As confirmed by her interview with NPR, her intention of the 'Deeper Well' lyrics was just as I interpreted when I first heard it through my car speakers. As she says in the interview, "I think of a well as sort of like a connection to a source - you know, a channel to get to a deeper place that we all need in order to live, to love, to know ourselves. "Deeper Well" is sort of an ode to removing resistance to growth, in whatever way that might mean."
Chills, right?!
Now cut to a couple days later, when I opened my weekly email from Pamela Anderson (which anyone can subscribe to on her site!), someone the world has re-fallen in love. Newsletter aside, if you have yet to watch her documentary or follow along as she's embraced a bare face, sans glam, during fashion week, premiers, and even on campaign photo shoots, do yourself a favor and stalk all things Pam as soon as you're done here!
In her email, Anderson writes, 'Originality is unexpected, darling... Live to your own beat...embrace and accept yourself fully—your personality, body, feelings, and experiences...I learned through many trials and errors—gaining a truer sense of self and confidence—without feeling the need to conform to external expectations or pressure... It's a whole new world...waiting...for us to dive in...'
