Hi and Happy Father’s Day weekend to those who partake. And for those who don’t, I’m sending you my love!
Father’s Day was always a hard one for me. I was raised by a single mom, so when the day rolled around, there were no art projects, no tie shopping, no pancake breakfasts. No partaking. Just another day, with moments of hard feelings that shifted and evolved over time. Confusion at five, sadness at ten, resentment at thirteen and so forth.
I share all this to say, nothing is permanent. Your story is always evolving. Even if you’re a kid (or an adult) stuck in a situation that feels impossible to shift, the years have a way of moving you closer to something new. Something healing. Something more aligned with the life you’ve dreamed of. For me, today is a reminder of that as I get the chance to celebrate Father’s Day with my children and their great dad. To rewrite a narrative for myself.
Time, it turns out, is a hell of a co-writer. And so is keeping your eye on the prize.
