The Weekly Edit
giving up rushing, a playlist by the row, protein pasta, skin cycling, restivals, really good reads, and so much more!
Happy Sunday! How was your week? I hope it’s been a good one.
Our week has been blissfully rainy which has brought on a nice and welcomed slow down. Something that has me thinking about rushing. More specifically, I’ve been feeling more aware of, and contemplative about the perpetual state of rushing. That nudging sense of urgency, the push to move on to the next thing, even when we’re enjoying the current thing and the next thing isn’t actually urgent.
Why am I often in a rush? And where am I rushing to? Rushing my children out of the car - even when we’re not late. Rushing through the motions of my workouts, even though I love the dopamine release, the burn, the me time. Rushing through emails, even though I’ve set aside time for them. Rushing through making dinner, despite how much I love to cook. Rushing to leave, even though we just arrived.
What is the rush? Is it from spending most of my life in a busy city? A symptom of “girl boss” culture/glamorization of productivity/productivity as a way of measuring value? A side effect of phone use? Or just part of being a mom, with a master to-do list running in the background at all times?
Whatever it may be, I'm determined to quit the unnecessary rush. To quiet that low-grade buzz urging me to hurry, to feel the need to constantly be in motion, to go, go, go. Because why rush through a life that’s meant to be savored?
Alright, enough of that…let’s get into what you’re here for, this week’s edit:
I loved this question as a point of simply noticing: “How are you being with yourself right now?”
Ordered this new cookbook which sounds cozy: Mother Sauce: Italian American Family Recipes and the Story of the Women Who Created Them.
Did you know The Row releases monthly playlists? Here’s March’s.
Speaking of music, there’s a new Haim single! Also, Este Haim’s home, including her pretty pink bedroom, is featured on AD this week.
Looking for a non-basic, ‘going-out’ top? Here’s a great list.
I’m feeling J. Crew’s creative and cool campaign casting lately including Emily from Feed Me for the New Yorker collab and now, the staff of Cafe Gintane (lentil and trout salad, forever!).
This was a good reminder that there is always room for a business that is taking something existing and making it better. Enter: Laundrette who is making the laundromat experience in New York an easier and more enjoyable experience. Plus, it’s pretty. Pretty-afying = business strategy.
Julius Roberts launched a Substack (I very much enjoy his IG and cookbook)!
I related to this even though I’m still posting on Instagram: why I’m no longer posting on Instagram.
In country life, we had friends over for dinner and they brought two chicks! So I guess that means we have chickens now? Names in the running: sunny, daisy, buttercream, cake, donut, sprinkle.
I started skin cycling with retinol using Mother Science’s Retinol Synergist, and I love it! It’s more than just a retinol, it’s paired with Malassezin, making it a powerhouse duo for fine lines, firming, and radiant skin. I'm two months in and am very pleased with the addition. Use code GERI15 for 15% off (excludes subscriptions and sets) to try it for yourself.
Possibly the Sambas of 2025.
Watched The Final Copy of Ilon Specht which is about the unsung advertising genius who coined L'Oréal's iconic "Because I'm Worth It" slogan in 1973, creating a four-word feminist manifesto that, against all odds, changed advertising forever.
I liked this list of “sentences that have altered my perception and my brain chemistry.” Good one: “don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.”
What Does It Take to Quit Shopping? Mute, Delete and Unsubscribe. Also, serotonin (which can release when you online shop) diets are trending.
I made this ‘Ginger-Garlic Shrimp With Coconut Milk’ on a rainy evening and it was delicious.
Ordered “protein pasta” - anyone ever try this? Will report back.
Jake Arnold’s new collab with Crate is what al fresco dining dreams are made of.
Do you remember how life used to feel? A great read on phones and ultimately, downgrading to a flip phone (would you ever?!).
Ohhh the piles! Very much relate.
