The Weekly Edit
what girls in la are not wearing, instagram’s big algorithm change, down regulating, mayor walks, lessons from the butter aisle in Paris and so much more!
Hii I hope this Weekly Edit finds you well! We were back in LA this week and two things stood out to me. First, the term “down regulating” is on people lips when it comes to self-care and wellness. Second, the thing girls in LA are not really wearing? Sneakers (I know, I’m sorry!). Instead, it’s alllll about loafers, slides (a lot of these specifically), flip flops and/or ballet flats. Flip flops with everything, especially fall layers. Loafers with everything, these are my comfiest, most favorite. These Birks with loose trousers and perfectly sloppy yet also somehow tailored t-shirts. Sweats + a trench + ballet flats for coffee runs. Etc. There’s so much more to report on but I think I’ll make it a separate newsletter?
Alright, let’s get into the edit:
This Hailey Beiber Saphire Reserve ad was all over LA and I legit thought she was holding a clutch in a fashion ad until I saw the sponsored post. Effective marketing or a miss?
Whether girls are taking their HB inspired Sapphire Reserve or a debit card (trending), to buy Rhode at Sephora, Rhode at Sephora is a monster. The brand is seeing record numbers at the retailer, their launch was 2.5 times bigger than any previous brand debut and they’re selling about three products every second.
NikeSKIMS has officially launched and while there’s a whole lot of chatter about leggings being over, opting for baggy instead of “tight tight,” this collection says otherwise. It is after-all, designed to sculpt.
Remember that Revolve influencer lawsuit? There’s an update.
Instagram hit 3 billion users and announced a big algorithm change which will allow you to tune your algorithm by adding and removing topics based on your interests. “You will be able to actually go to a page in the settings that lets you know what we think you’re interested in ... and make all the changes you want,” Mosseri said.” Here’s how to do it/how it works.
Super thin content trending this week like this and this and this.
Sarah Jessica Parker launched a Substack, which got me thinking, how quintessentially Carrie would it have been if Carrie Bradshaw had launched one at the end of the series? Imagine her popping into our inboxes with updates on that romance with the neighbor.
Iconic: Miranda Priestly and Anna Wintour together in Milan.
Bose released a yellow speaker and packaged it like a butter stick and I am so here for it!
Oura ring has sold more than 5.5M devices, crossed $1B in annual revenue, added features like blood sugar integration and expanded retail sales across 4,000 stores. They’re now valued at $11B and are raising $875M in Series E financing.
Can Claire’s make a comeback? The co-founders of private-equity firm Ames Watson, which has bought the chain out of bankruptcy, say they will hire more staff and upgrade ear-piercing stations. I’m rooting for you, Claire’s!
This might be LA niche, but the bidding war for Joshua Zetumer spec ‘Pagans’ which landed at Netflix with a straight-to-series order was the talk of the town in my Hollywood circle.
Are we being inspired or influenced? Is this what I do now? Filter everything through someone else’s gaze?
Into the new Banana creative.
St. Agni is 20% off sitewide and this trench is real good.
Madwell is 30% off sitewide (ends tonight), their denim is sooo good!
What is activewear in a post-leggings world (seeeee what I mean about everyone talking about leggings being over?!).
Speaking of activewear, Varley (which I live in) is launching their first ever collection of premium boots starting with early access here.
The side part is back…but did it ever leave?
A list of some of the best time-saving beauty heroes.
Merit is teaming up with Brandon Maxwell for a new take on their signature makeup bag. Cute! Launches Oct 2.
Oak Essentials has a great GWP this week: Jenni Kayne mules with purchases of $150 or more.
Kids are getting regular old watches thanks to phone bans in schools.
They also love yapping away on landline’s with Tin Can. (these two things, regular watches and landlines, make me so happy!)
I started following this photographer who shares human connections and street portraits and it’s been a beautiful addition to my feed.
A list of writing (and art) residencies in the US (would love to do something like this someday!)
Some good tidbits here: 15 free habits I picked up at a $15,000 wellness retreat.
A nice reminder about how cool nature is.
Have you ever heard of a “mayor walk?”
Related to this: did the “COVID pause” make you feel younger than you are?
Lastly, I loved this: watch for reasons why this could be the best day of you life.
And to close it out, three things I did the moment it rained on Tuesday:
Put on my coziest sweats despite it still being a balmy 80° outside.
Started watching ‘Friday Night Lights’ because apparently that’s exactly the kind of soul-soothing I need right now.
Baked pumpkin muffins and filled the whole house with that fall feeling.
That’s it! Thank you for reading!
Gentle reminder that these take a lot of reading, love and time to pull together, so if you enjoyed it, would you be kind enough to tap the little heart? It’s a small thing that’s actually really big in the Substack world.
XX,

Geri, I don’t know how you compile such a great list every week! I loved this one! Thanks for making my Sunday so bright and hopeful!
I savour these every week!
