The Weekly Edit
outfit repeating, afternoon visits, learning french, the mother mermaid aesthetic and so much more
Hi and happy long weekend! There’s something about Memorial Day that just feels so good, you know? The air still carries a hint of spring, but school’s winding down, the days are warming up, sprinklers are humming, and backyard dinners linger a little longer under the open sky. It’s like the first whisper of summer.
Wherever you are, I hope you’re feeling a little sun on your skin, joy in your chest, and the gentle nudge of that summery goodness that’s upon us.
XX,

The Weekly Edit:
How to become friends with literally anyone.
Let’s bring back the lost art of the afternoon visit. But really!
Pretty May covers of The New Yorker through the decades.
Propaganda I’m not falling for: to achieve daytime beauty, these women look like monsters at night.
Want to hit 30g protein without loads of meat or protein powder? Ideas.
In case you’ve ever dreamed about it, and want to be a voyeur: lessons from a year off Instagram.
An interview with Sofia Coppola.
Is the summer 2025 aesthetic going to be “the mother mermaid?”
“She’s diaphanous…she’s wearing shells, she’s wearing beads, she’s wearing sandals. Her eyelids have a finger swipe of reflective shadow so she always has a little pearl wherever she goes and her hair is romantic and slightly sea swept, but not messy. She’s not undone, it’s more glamorous, but with a simple overtone - not minimal.”
Rhode is launching at Sephora and Hailey Bieber is on the cover of VOGUE.
Recession indicator? Chanel is pulling back on price hikes after annual revenues dropped for the first time since 2020, sliding 4.3 percent to $18.7 billion last year, the French couture and beauty giant said Tuesday. “This performance followed a period of unprecedented growth in which revenues nearly doubled over the previous three years,” chief executive Leena Nair said. “It’s a challenging time in the world… and it continues to be challenging.”
Meanwhile, TJX is thriving amid tariffs and economic chaos, CEO Ernie Herrman said during Wednesday’s earnings call. The company reported 3% sales growth and an influx of merchandise from brands looking for cash infusions during this challenging time. The off-price beauty and wellness categories continue to be a successful part of TJX’s merchandising strategy, with mass, prestige and luxury brands quietly selling into the channel at 30-70% off MSRP. Good to know!
New York’s Fifth Avenue transformation is fully funded. Mayor Adams announced the pumped-up budget to dramatically change one of the busiest venues in the world.
Google is taking its virtual try-on feature to a new level with AI. Instead of seeing what a piece of clothing might look like on a wide range of models, they’re testing a feature that lets you upload a photo of yourself to see how it might look on you. If you want to try it, head here and opt into the “try on” experiment. It’s actually quite fun to play with.
“The Uniform,” Merit’s new mineral sunscreen SPF 45, launched and it’s every bit as Merit and every bit as good as you’d expect (they sent it to me pre-launch). Not dewy, not shiny, sophisticated, natural-looking, easy to apply, and pretty in your makeup bag/on your vanity.
There are so many great sales right now, some worth note:
Jenni Kayne is 20% off off sitewide (the Leo trench is sooo good)
My favorite toddler organic cotton t-shirts are 30% off
Perelel is 20% off (I love their creamy vanilla protein powder)
Moda’s designer sale is up to 50% off
Oh, and: VIOLET GREY! It’s the “put it in the bag” event which is up to 25% off Augustinus Bader, Dr. Diamond's Metacine, Westman, et al. I ordered this viral mascara, a refill of the Happy Endings by Sam McKnight (the perfect texture for my ends) and am trying his “cool girl texture mist.” Dreaming of the lyma laser, curious about the VB bronzing brick and all things Fara Homidi.
Kind of niche but cool: scientists created 'invisible solar panels' that allow windows to generate electricity.
How to learn French and actually enjoy it. Summer bucket list, perhaps?
Totally agree, I’ve been repeating cream and black lately, specifically:
These cream ASTR trousers with this black RE/DONE tank, this Déhanche belt and these black flip flops.
This under $100 dress with these sandals and this straw bag.
And these cream Levi’s (sized up) with my favorite t-shirt, black leather flip flops and this black Loewe bag. All complete with perfect black sunglasses (these frames look good on literally everyone!).
In the swimsuit department: I trepidatiously ordered the Left On Friday high tide bottoms with the streamlined top, my first bikini in a loooooong time, and the high waist is doing me a lot of favors after three children. To cover my bum poolside, I ordered this Monday Swimwear sarong and it’s perfect. Just the right length for perching on the pool steps with my toddler without it dragging in water. Also, I wore my Left On Friday weekend suit with this delicate DÔEN skirt and the combo felt like vacation. In Italy specifically (that’s the closest I’ll be getting this summer).
This father-daughter dance project put a huge smile on my face.
I wrote a love letter to New York, serendipity, growing older and possibilities. I hope you enjoy it!
My girlfriend Gaby is up visiting with her family and we’re making her crab pasta tomorrow…yum!
Slipped these SPF sticks into the girls’ backpack pockets so they have something easy to swipe on to protect those cute cheeks from sunburns. We use this one at home (both have top EWG ratings).
Listening to the station John Mayer is curating on SiriusXM, Life with John Mayer, it’s so good! Channel 14.
Watched ‘Forever’ and am watching ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ both little nightly treats.
Next on my list: Sirens on Netflix and"And Just Like That..." season 3 which premieres on Thursday.
Annnd to close it out, 5 soulful ways to reconnect with yourself after a busy long weekend:
Spend 10 minutes in silence, no task, no input, no phone, no meditation.
Make yourself a low-lift snack plate that fills your cup. Mine will include dark chocolate, salty olive oil potato chips, Parmesan chunks and walnuts.
Write a list of what’s draining vs. what’s giving.
Say no to something and don’t explain.
Take yourself on a solo date, even if it’s just to the grocery store or for coffee.
That’s it, that’s what I’ve got! If you enjoyed this, would you be so kind as to give it a little heart? Thank you for reading! See you back here on Tuesday this week!
Love this list and the reconnection list was perfect! Thank you! Have an amazing weekend! So excited for summer! My son had his last day on Wednesday, so we are in full on summer mode!💛
I especially love the final section this week. That snack plate combination sounds divine!
