The Weekly Edit
coachella weekend one, undone beauty, soul realization and cy twombly's italian villa
Hi and happy weekend! It was kind of a weird week, no? Here are some things that felt good (or interesting):
The new Bon Iver album has been on repeat. Ahhh so good! Have also been streaming the Coachella 2025 playlist in honor of weekend one.
Does anyone have The Light Phone yet? This seems like it could be huge.
Actual Y2K brands want in on the Y2K trend. From Ugg to Milani to True Religion, popular early-aughts brands are leaning into “newstalgia” - striking a balance between reminding consumers of their glory days and offering something fresh to stay relevant across generations.
Welcome to the era of “undone” beauty. But did it ever leave (ehhhhemmm Mary-Kate and Ashley)?
Big fan of the styling in The Parent Trap. Meredith Blake, Elizabeth James, Nick Parker! But also, Chessy.
Are you living for relevance or soul realization?
I follow art director Zoë Akihary and enjoy her art direction roundups such as you dropped something, branded coffee, sporty but elevated, mundane everyday items, etc. Kind of niche but so so good if you’re into marketing and brand.
Sure am putting this parenting hack to use.
“This is the paradox of convenience: it promises more time, more ease, more freedom, but often delivers the opposite. The more we optimize, the more we isolate. The more frictionless our interactions become, the less real they feel. Convenience has become the organizing principle of modern life and I can’t help but wonder: can a convenient life really be a happy one?” A good life is inconvenient.
Watched Tracy Anderson on Impact x Nightline. I am hypnotized by that woman (but have yet to take her class).
Revisited the centuries-old Italian house where Cy Twombly thrived.
Have beeen making this white fish with olives, lemons, capers and green chilis almost weekly - it’s great and easy (from this book).
Gen Z and millennials are creating a “recession-resistant” corner of the market with wellness (wellness brands are also winning on TikTok Shop). What the wellness economy means for a skincare slowdown.
For a while there, it felt like I couldn’t open IG without a beauty video tutorial underneath my right index finger but lately I’ve sensed a shift and it turns out, the data supports it: is beauty losing its Instagram grip?
Who wants to run Vanity Fair? Everyone? Anyone?
Prada bought Versace. Anyone care to guess for how much?
Next time you’re in Paris, you can enjoy that jog - it’s no longer a faux pas.
With the things that rhyme with sheriff looming, maybe in 90 days, maybe sooner, maybe later (who can keep up?), I did what I could do: grabbed a few extra back-ups from Sephora during the sale (ends tomorrow I believe), before prices inevitably go up. Kosas brow, MARA cleansing oil, Westman drops, mascara, blah blah blah. But also, you know how I feel about the Dyson Airwrap - best purchase I’ve made in the last few years.
I also ordered a chic new blazer (every color is soo good). And for a fresh way to wear a blazer, I like how they styled it with this skirt (something so many of us probably already own a version of). But also, the soft butter waistcoat!
As someone who feels like creativity is one of the core pillars of my nourishment, this struck a chord. Speaking of creativity, how do you teach it?
The girls and I have been watercolor painting together and are doing this flower watercolor workbook next - so cute!
Why good butter is worth the splurge.
“She doesn’t make us think, she makes us aspire. This is what is at the core of this shift. Where public intellectuals once shaped cultural discourse by challenging ideas, most influential figures today shape culture by modeling a lifestyle.” I was really engaged with this piece on the death of the public intellectual.
If you enjoyed this, would you be kind enough to give it a little heart? I hope you have a nice week!
xx,
Looking forward to your newsletter every Sunday morning. Thank you Geri!
Immediately texted the White Lotus link to my husband so we can cue one of these up tonight!
