For months now, girls on the Internet have been carefully curating lists of things they find impossibly chic. And like a great show or perfectly crispy French fries, I devour every single one. I LOVE them! They’re full of little gems, packed with ideas and inspiration, and they offer a glimpse into a world where elegance feels effortless and beauty is found in the smallest of details. Depending on who’s reading and who’s writing, they can feel like a bible on aspiration for how to live.
While consuming yet another one of these wonderfully curated lists, I found myself reflecting through a different lens: through the eyes of my daughters. Am I raising them to be impossibly chic? Maybe. But that’s not really the goal. My focus is to raise them to be capable, curious, and well-rounded. To know how to do a lot of things and move through life with kindness and confidence.
When I think about the qualities I admire most in people, it’s not just about their monogrammed napkins, the chilled champagne in their fridge, or the aesthetics they curate (though I do apprecaite all of those things). It’s about what they know, what they know how to do, and how they treat people.
So today, I thought I’d share something a little different: things I find impossibly cool when people know how to do them. These aren’t necessarily things I’ve mastered myself, but when I see someone else who has? I can’t help but think, 'wow, that’s cool.' And if I can raise my daughters to be impossibly capable, curious, resilient, kind, and able to handle whatever life throws their way, I will have done my job, and they can decide what they deem impossibly chic.
