Two new books:
How to Be Old: Lessons in Living Boldly from the Accidental Icon by Lyn Slater
Lyn Slater was a professor of social work at Fordham University by day and a sixty year old famous fashion blogger on the side, known as Accidental Icon. Her memoir is about the hopeful and future-oriented process of reinvention showing readers that while you can’t control everything, what you can control is the way you think about your age and the creative ways you respond to the changes in your mind and body as they happen. Rather than trying to meet standards of youth and beauty as a measure of successful aging, Lyn promotes a more inclusive and empowering standard to judge our older selves by.The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt
In ‘The Anxious Generation,’ social psychologist, Jonathan Haidt argues that the move from ‘play-based childhood’ to ‘phone-based childhood’ has had disastrous effects on mental health. Haidt sets out inarguable evidence that smartphones are fueling an anxiety epidemic among young people. Including 145 percent increase in depression among teen girls from 2010 to 2021, a 161 percent rise among boys in those same years, with big hikes in anxiety disorders, self-harm and suicide, too. This feels like an extremely important read.
For the kitchen: Yamazaki Home 3-Tier Food Serving Stand
I shared a photo of this appetizer/dessert/fruit tray on stories and got a ton of DM’s about it so I thought I'd share it here, too. It’s a good one - very multi-functioal.

ALRIGHT, LET’S GET INTO IT:
When Is a Haircut More Than a Haircut?
Who here has ever done something completely drastic with your hair? Bold cut, shocking bangs, striking new color, perhaps? And what was going on in your life when it happened — status quo or were things shaking up?
They say you shouldn’t do anything drastic with your hair when you’re going through a major life experience, like a breakup, a wedding, while pregnant or, mmmmm, a midlife crisis.
