Thank you for this post. It is so boring to look around and see everyone wearing the same thing head to toe. It lacks creativity - to say the least - and isn’t interesting. May it inspire people to get back into curating their personal style!
This reflection on personal style is wonderful, Geri. Lately I’ve felt so much more in touch with my personal style as I consume less. Maybe we are in a time where we consume more than ever, compare more than ever, due to the wider scale we are exposed with social media. In any event, loved this so much!! You’re a gem.
I so agree that now everyone seems to be dressed the same. Not many revolutionary influencers out there. Thanks for highlighting these women. I will be following them.
Yes I agree with you! I would say that the styling on insecure was even more thoughtful and personal than sex and the city ... don’t get me wrong I love SATC!
Omggg!!! Yes you do! If you don’t have time watch the special they did for the ending of show- they talk about the fashion, like cliff notes. It’s super well done❤️
Geri! You took the thoughts right out of my mind and put them on paper. Ever since sambas have become the latest hot trend that’s EVERYWHERE, I found myself really questioning are these for me or do I just want them because everyone else is wearing them. A common thought I have every time something becomes super popular. I’m to spend less time on Instagram because it seems to be a big culprit in influencing trendy purchases and back to playing around with clothes in my closet.
I’m kind of obsessed with this perspective!! I watch SATC reruns too (there will never be a better show, imo) and I’ve thought the same thing...especially about the faces and bodies. It showed unique women! If they remade it today, everyone would be smooth, plumped, filled, perked etc. (nothing wrong with that, obvi)! But it just wouldn’t be the same. I also love the Supermodel show and again, they all look so unique!
It’s interesting to look back and think about high school in the mid-90’s and I can literally pinpoint the few girls who had amazing style and it wasn’t because they followed someone and copy/paste because that didn’t exist. I got inspiration from those girl crushes and the monthly magazines. Looking forward to following the people you included here! Great post!

“More copy-and-paste words to put over copy-and-paste style.” Absolutely love this line. And yes indeed to the rest of it.
