Geri my friend! What a breath of fresh air to read this. There is so much to relate to here...whether you’re 30 or 50. Thank you for verbalizing so eloquently the very real feelings, moments and mirror glances we are all experiencing.
No to Botox. But take my reply with a grain of salt. Women in my family age incredibly slowly. I have a few lines around the corners of my eyes but other than that, my skin is still very smooth at nearly 40. I had a client tell me last week they thought I looked 25.
Honestly I think what is truly stopping me from any cosmetic procedure is the maintenance. I don't really want to spend the money or time on it.
I invested in some Chanel ballet flats years ago as a reward for a raise at work. I've pared down my shoe collection significantly since and they have remained. They last forever and they are comfortable enough for me to walk all day in NYC in.
I have never felt more confident in my own body as I do now I'm in my 40s and I love that but I do have a bad habit of looking back I wish I owed it more in my 20s and 30s. If only I'd known then what I do now but at least I'm feeling it and owning it now so hopefully I won't be looking back in the same way when I'm
Newer to your long form content, but I’ve been following on IG for a little while. As I’m about halfway through my 30’s and still struggling with some recent body changes I really appreciated this take on the process. I generally like to look at aging as a beautiful thing as well, though it is always a little harder to come to terms with it on my own body. I also recently watched the “Live to 100” documentary and really loved it. Trying to use/focus on the major takeaways in my own life more. As for the Botox, I have not tried it myself but living/working in LA has put it on my radar more than I care to admit. I would say I’m interested in it in some areas but not in others. I kind of love the laugh lines that develop with age, but other areas that I feel age me and make me look angry I am open to. Merci for your thoughtful and thought-provoking content!
I found you recently on Shira’s podcast, and felt so seen in your conversation. Let’s be honest, losing youth and beauty sucks! I live in the mountains of the PNW, where Botox isn’t a thing and it’s more about being healthy and active. But, it’s still hard to lose the thing you were praised for growing up. And it happened so fast, it’s been sort of shocking. So thank you for the vulnerability and thoughts moving forward, it’s truly helpful.
I wonder if people find us less sexy or if they find us less vulnerable. And I wonder how often "people" are actually predatory/immature men. Not that the beauty standards aren't extremely real, but there are so many instances (not all, but most) where getting hit on, getting cat called, getting drinks bought for us is extremely predatory. I wonder if immature/predatory men find us less sexy, but everyone else (including ourselves!) find us sexy, still. If so, I'll take it! The fewer fucks we give about whether men find us worthy/sexy, the better, imo.
I loved reading this. Pushing 40, first time mom, trying to figure out what dressing my age is. Botox does make me feel ( and look- perhaps look and feel too frequently intertwine ) refreshed. Especially on those zoom calls when I forget to “ minimize self view “- I prefer my botoxed self. Go for it if you want to try it out! It only lasts 3 months anyway so you can always opt out in 90 days.

True, true! Time will tell - and I'll most certainly share if I do it. xx
